Jos Smeets is since 1979 employed at the Technical University of Eindhoven in the Department of Architecture, Building and Planning. He starts his career in educational and research activities in the field of Urban Renewal. End of the 80tieshe was one of the founing fathers of the Real Estate Management and Development Group.

Since 1987 he is Associate Professor on Real Estate Management and since 1993 Director of the Research Institute Interface.

He is a specialist in the field of Housing and of Management of Residential Real Estate. He is responsible for Bachelor as well as Master courses in the field of Housing Management (Asset & Portfolio) and Urban Management and Redevelopment.

 

Relevant fields of research are:

- Analyzing of Customer Perceived Value of tenants;

- Information systems and Innovation in Asset Management for Housing Managers;

- Housing of special groups (elderly, ethnical minorities);

- Urban Management and Redevelopment.

 

During 1991-2006 he was chairperson of the Editorial Staff of the Handbook Urban Management, Editor Reed Elsevier.

Since 1992 he participates in several ENHR working groups on the Social Structuration of Relationships between Organizations and Tenants and the ENHR working group on Housing Renewal and Maintenance.

 

In 1998 he was one of the members of the Executive Commitee of the 15th Bi-Annual Conference of the International Association for People Environment Studies (IAPS) Shifting Balances Changing Roles in Policy, Research and Design in Eindhoven.

 

From 1992-2006 he was in the chair of the Editing Board of the Handbook Urban Management edited by Reed Elsevier. Since 1998 he is a member of the editorial staff of The Real Estate Magazine, edited by Arko Uitgeverij.
