Peter Hilbers is full professor of BioModeling and BioInformatics at the department of Biomedical Engineering (research group Computational Biology). His main research interests are large scale computer simulations, computational modeling and applications in biomedical engineering, systems biology, molecular systems, catalysis, and polymer chemistry.

Peter Hilbers studied Mathematics at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) where he completed his PhD study on 'Mapping of algorithms on processor networks' in 1989. From 1989 until 1996, he worked at the Shell Research Laboratories in Amsterdam. In 1993, he was appointed part-time Professor of Large Scale Computing and Applications at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, The Netherlands) and in 1996 he became a full Professor of BioModeling and BioInformatics. Peter Hilbers leads the research cluster BIOMedical Imaging & Modeling and also heads the Computational Biology research group at the TU/e department of Biomedical Engineering. Since 2005, he is involved in the research and educational programs of the Sino-Dutch Biomedical & Information Engineering School of Northeastern University, Shenyang, China. In October 2007, he became the dean of the TU/e department of Biomedical Engineering.
